Even if you think your CV's perfect you may want a second take on it. If you want a new take on your CV I can help. I have a HR background, public and private sector. I have also worked for the private sector and I am very forward thinking. My husband and I recently completed our IVA and I want to give something back e.g. help those on the forum such as Emily whom I helped recently. If I can help you I will. Oscar I have a 30 minute presentation to complete on either the 16th or 23rd November, do you have any activities for CV writing or can you think of any? I have the content but need to break it up so as it's not death by powerpoint. Only a thought if you had anything, don't go to any trouble. x

Hi Lesley, I have never done this before my time in HR was in an admin capacity. However, I have very recently completed a PTLLS teaching course and it gave me an idea (I have recently been a voluntary tutor in equality and diversity at the local college),

How about a ‘speed dating’ style exercise you could use it as a warm up even?

Arrange the tables quickly but safely in 2 lanes almost and put people into 2 lines then arrange them side by side.

Play some music to begin with maybe for a relaxer.

Then, get them, in a given timescale to say to each other why they would make/or are the perfect employee. After a few minutes tell them to swap and do this the other way round.

Afterwards, get them to do a very brief feedback to the group of the other person and say why they would be/are the perfect employee.

You could facilitate this, be careful though it’s a sensitive subject but if done well may make good relations within the group, depending upon the group size and make up.

Can I just add, even when your CV is revised and ready "to go", make sure you adapt the CV according to the role you are applying for. Also, a good covering letter is worth just as much as a CV.

I see loads of CV's and to be honest,I read some of them with a pinch of salt. There are so many companies helping to wrtite CV's that it's hard to spot the truth. A covering letter is very useful in selecting potential employees. Again, make sure the letter suits the vacancy.

Lesley - I gave a course on HR for Line Managers last week and inncluded a word associate game. It got a bit silly in parts, but certainly broke up the session and made us smile ( or squirm) [:D]

yes Julie a lot of the courses you mentioned do make people squirm and I don't blame them really. Just to concur with Julie's advice, always tailor your CV and covering, letter never ever send the same one out again and again as tempting as it may be. Hugs.

Also, do not include your date of birth on CV's and please a 2 page CV ample.

yes great and although it is not a legal requirement to include your date of birth I'd think twice about this one depending upon the type of job etc. I always make a CV 2 pages max if possible, this is very good advice Julie

Oscar that sounds like fun! I'll work on that it may just work for what I want. I like the idea, makes it fun as nothing worse than just good CV vs bad CV. This is all part of the uni course I'm doing for educational behaviour. x

My job involved competency questionning! I found it very difficult to relate situation either past or present to some of them so made a couple up! oops! how naughty!
