When did it get so expennsive to insure a small car for 3rd party fire and theft??


Got given a car but have not had one for 10 years so i dont have no clims and its horrendously exensive

I'm not sure Dominic as I think I've had a car forever and so ours is fairly inexpensive. Keep shopping around you never know. x

cheapest i have found is 970, its because i do not have a no cliams bonus not owned a car for 11 years nor unsured one

wow that is high but then I guess it will be, my daughter has her driving test soon and I know the insurance for the young ones is extortionate too x

Hi Dominic my nephew pays a crazy sum to insure his car about £1000. Give the go compare the market thing a try if you've not done this already. Also, some companies like Tesco and direct line do not appear on here so ring them directly for a quote. By the way if you happen to get a free Meerkat keep the box and the certificate, they sell for £40 upwards at times on ebay.

I bought one Oscar - Sergei now sits proudly on the cabinet in the living room! I'm not getting frivilous - I was given some money when my aunt died and she loved the meerkat adverts so I thought it was a fitting tribute!

On the subject of insurance, have you tried one of the companies that do a bonus accelerator? You pay for 10 months but get a years no claims after the 10 months. I think Admiral might do it.

went for fully comp in the end cost 10 pounds more but hey, and it comes with 5 years ncb.

Ah, that time of year again... I've been doing mine over the last couple of days. I was paying £28 a month and they (Egg) hiked the renewal up to almost £36. I've found another deal at £49 deposit and £24.70 for 10 months, which I've gone with, but I hate having to telephone the other place, to say that I don't want to renew, they always seem to want to ask 20 questions why... [:(!]

Sadly it has been a trend for the last 10 years and it is all to do with Solicitors and pursuing injury claims. A basic whiplash claim might get you £600 but the fees would be at least £1000. The Solicitors are the only winners and we have to pay through increased premiums [:(]

Hopefully with the outlawing of referring cases on for money by anyone (Insurers, Garages, Recover Agents) will slow it down but the price increases will stay. I mean have you ever heard of any business lowering prices after people have gotten used to high price (Other than supermarkets)

That's pretty good Skeef. It doesn't bother me phoning up the previous company, I just tell them I've found it cheaper elsewhere.

The last time I did it they didn't even ask why and just told me to send back the new certificate they had forwarded!!

Luke, hope you are well. I do hope that by outlawing this selling on of details that it will make a difference. Insurance prices are stupid even for those of us with maximum no claims and not made one since 1996!!!!

Yes, the prices do vary wildly don't they?! I am a member of a supermarket chain and they managed to quote £500!!!

I have not made a claim since 2002 (and I think I was protected then too), and had 3 points on for 3 years from January 2005, and I don't drive an expensive car, so you'd think I was pretty low risk...
