My iva started on 14 oct , BG have just notified me that they received notification from the official receiver ref my IVA . And they have cancel my gas and electric accounts then opened new ones but on the standard tariff,,
Why were they informed, as this happened to anyone else .

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately this does happen with British Gas. No idea why they do it. They may well not have been told but could possible trawl the Insolvency Register to see if any of their customers are on there.

Yes we do read about this from other posters. Sometimes they're on a more favourable tariff too so doesn't make much sense. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Spf - I didn't get a letter but BG put me back on a standard tariff about 2 months into the IVA. I just went back on-line and changed it to the more favourable on-line tariff and it's stayed that way.

I think they just revert you back when they change the numbers but are happy to accept you on a better tariff again.

It could be they change the numbers when they have checked that you don't owe them any money to be included in the IVA?

Thanks for the info , will get online and sort out the tarrif. Daft thing is they even wrote off the £.2.11p I owed them from gas and transferred £66 credit from the electric, and sent 8 different letters out in the process ,what a waste of time and money,

I was more alarmed that they stated that the official receiver had advised them of the IVA , thought that only occurred in bankruptcy ?
I have spoken to the company who arranged the IVA and they also say that no one should off contacted the ,just a little worried they were not aware that this happens and still concerned that we will get other letters perhaps from water/ phone ect

Same for me when I started my IVA. The customer service lady I spoke to said it was because I was in credit (dual fuel) and that you can't be seen to be in credit when insolvent.
Last Payment made 04/12/14. Completion Certificate 25/7/15. IVA company GT. No Issues

I'm with Atlantic and never had a problem. Any credit I have is offset against the next bill.

any online tariff would be cheaper as standard ones dont tend to be good value for money.

Contact british gas and tell them to put you back on a better tariff or you will move elsewhere.

They cant possibly trawl the insolvency register looking for customers who are in an IVA can they ?? What a waste of time especially if the accounts in question are up to date.

You'd think that as long as accounts are up to date they would let it go!!!

You would have thought so. It's so annoying when your account is fine and they punish you. Wouldn't touch BG with a ten foot barge pole now.
